When I am in need of a rest from the frenetic pace of visiting London’s top sights, I often head for these places as a chance to relax and take things at a slower pace.

• The Keeper’s House at the Royal Academy (you need annual membership)
• The BFI Southbank Mediatheque where you can watch 85,000 films for free
• The Hayward Gallery, a world renowned contemporary art gallery at the South Bank Centre
• A music recital at St Johns Smith Square
